Always looking to support and encourage the next generation, Dougie reached out to his friend, fellow Yorkshireman and Sheffield’s Mountain bike legend Steve Peat to help identify a worthy group of young people who he could donate an opportunity to that is worth in excess of one thousand five hundred pounds.

After several discussions and much research, the World Championship winning Yorkshire duo identified the Steel City Rippers Club as the perfect recipient of their festive act of kindness.

Steel City Rippers is a voluntary run British Cycling affiliated Go-Ride children’s mountain bike club based in Sheffield, which hosts high quality coaching sessions on a monthly basis for young riders of all abilities, whilst on the remaining weekends can be found travelling the length and breadth of the country racing various events and riding every trail, they can get their wheels on.

Two instructors from Steel City Rippers will accompany the ten lucky young club members, who will watch the very best motorcycle trials riders in the World compete against each other early next year, from the luxury of one of the arena’s VIP platinum suites with their food on the night being kindly donated by the Utilita Arena Sheffield.

Laura Grayson – Steel City Rippers Co-founder and Welfare Officer said: “As volunteers our only motivation and passion is to make sure that the club delivers a positive and enjoyable setting where local young mountain bike riders can learn new skills that might one day make them the next Steve Peat or even Dougie Lampkin, as many of the bicycle techniques are transferable to off road motorcycling too.”

“On behalf of the entire club and in particular the ten youngsters who will be going on the night, I would like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to both Dougie and Steve for this incredibly generous opportunity that normally these youngsters would not have access to.”

Dougie explained: “Christmas is all about putting a smile on the kids’ faces and giving to others. During the latter part of my career I have been focused on helping and inspiring the younger generation as sport has been such a big and important part of my life. The youngsters will have a great night and get to see of World’s best riders in action!”
